Physical Description:The lock is a matchlock with a plain serpentine connected by a simple linkage to a sprung trigger. The stock is three quarter length with a narrow butt and a raised section behind the breech. It is fitted with two suspension loops, and is decorated in enamels with birds and animals amid foliage on a dark green ground. The barrel is of round section, slightly thickened and with a moulding at the breech, where there is a block backsight, and chiselled towards the muzzle with an animal head, which has incised teeth, eyes and flaring nostrils. From the mouth of this beast issues a flaring, octagonal section of the barrel, which has a small foresight. The ramrod has an elegantly carved section at its end.
